Cr-EDTA clearance
A bolus of a tracer substance, such as Cr-EDTA, is injected into the bloodstream. By taking subsequent blood samples the gradual disappearance of the substance allows calculation of the glomerular filtration.

Fanconi Syndrome

Fanconi syndrome is a disease that affects the proximal tubules of the kidneys leading to disturbance in the transport of various substances including reduced reabsorbing of glucose, amino acids, uric acid, phosphate and bicorbonate, which is then directly passed in to the urine. The syndrome may be inherited, congenital or acquired by drugs like expired tetracyclines or tenofovir or heavy metals. The symptoms include polyuria, dehydration, bone disturbance (rickets in children and osteomalaci in adults), acidosis and electrolyte disturbance (hypokalemia, hypophatemia, hyperchoremia).
